The popular streaming service has recently brought back such popular shows as Sex/Life and Outer Banks, gripping subscribers with a mix of genres ranging from comedy, adventure, and everything in between.
Until now, on the other hand, you’ve never heard of audiences encountering Shmunguss on Netflix. Sure, you’ve heard of Wednesday or Mindhunter, for example…. but Shmunguss?
It’s baffling audiences on TikTok, so let’s explore the recent fascination with Shmunguss on Netflix.
Shmunguss on Netflix explored
A TikTok user under the name of Channel Everything recently posted a video to the social media platform that has been reshared on the likes of Twitter.
In the video, somebody explains that they’re at their girlfriend’s house and they’re scrolling through Netflix. “Can someone tell me what these categories are?” he asks, scrolling down and reaching a category labeled ‘Shmunguss’.
In the category, we see such movies or shows as The Shmunguss King, I Married A Shmunguss, The Shmonguss Among Us, and Shmonguss’ Revenge displayed.
Somebody can be heard citing a VPN as an explanation for the unusual category and titles.
Since the video was uploaded, it has gained 512.9k likes.
Is the Shmunguss category on Netflix real?
The Shmunguss category on Netflix is not real and the movies and shows that are displayed in the category on the TikTok video do not exist. You won’t find the titles or category if you search for them on Netflix.
There are some telltale signs that tell you it’s inauthentic. Firstly, the first movie displayed is The Shmunguss King and it says it’s a 2012 movie starring real-life actor Paul Giamatti. However, the American actor known for Billions and Sideways was never in such a movie.
Additionally, the video suggests that the show I Married A Shmunguss is #2 in TV Shows Today and has had three seasons since 2019. If you Google the series or type it into any search engine, you’ll find it doesn’t exist.
Although many are finding themselves absolutely baffled, the Shmunguss Netflix category is one elaborate joke or prank with an A for effort.
People react on Twitter
Since the TikTok video went viral, a number of people have reacted to the word – it has no definition or meaning if you search it – and the Netflix category on Twitter.
