Three months before Astro Moonbin’s sudden death, the singer revealed his sister’s happiness was his 2023 goal.
The K-pop community and industry are in shock after entertainment company, Fantagio, confirmed that Astro’s Moonbin had passed away. He was 25 years old.
Moonbin had reportedly taken his life and was found dead in his home by his manager at about 8:10 pm KST/ 7.10am ET on April 19.
“We are currently discussing the possibility of an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death,” Korean police revealed.
Fans are keeping the Moon family in their thoughts, particularly his sister Sua, a fellow K-pop star who serves as the rapper in the girl group Billlie.
The idol siblings were known for their close relationship, and one of their last public sibling appearances just proved how strong their connection was.
Astro’s Moonbin and his sister appeared on sibling show months before death
The artists starred in episode 46 of DNA Mate, an MBC reality show that focused on celebrity families. As one of the most popular singing siblings, demand was high for Moonbin and Sua’s appearance, and wishes finally came true on January 10, 2023.
Cameras documented their family antics and sibling dynamics, and it’s safe to say that the Moons were extremely close-knit.
One moment that touched the hearts of the hosts and viewers alike was the scene where Moonbin declared his wish for 2023.
“For 2023, I want Sua to always be happy,” he screamed as he bungee jumped off a platform.
“Instead of making a wish for yourself, you made a wish for Sua,” the hosts observed. “He cares about her.”
Sua, who leaped first, wished for a Billlie hit single.
Condolences pour in for Moon Sua
Fans are sending their condolences to the Astro members and Sua amid this difficult time. Sua, who is two years younger than Moonbin, is currently promoting Billlie’s latest single, Eunoia.
Her brother’s death comes just hours after the rapper performed on Show Champion.
“I just hope that Mystic Story will give Moon Sua all the time she’ll need to recover from this loss,” one fan wrote. “Moonbin was her rock and the main reason that she decided to stay in the industry, they love each other so much.”
A second person commented: “I wasn’t really a fan of Astro but I often did come across their videos and saw a video of Moonbin performing with his sister and thought what great dancers and singers they were.”
“My heart broke so much,” another person added. “Rest in peace Moonbin. My prayers and love are with the family, Moon Sua the sister, members of Astro, and the fans. Please hang on tight.”
