The Hybrid Solar Eclipse in 2023 is one of the rarest and most spectacular natural phenomena that can be witnessed once in a decade, but what happens if it occurs while you’re pregnant, and can it affect your unborn baby?
The moments of the celestial bodies are believed to have a profound impact on individual zodiac signs, according to astrology.

As well as a number of myths, there is a surprising level of misinformation that goes around on the Internet when the moon’s shadow crosses the Earth‘s surface for a brief period of time.
Pregnant women, especially, are posed with a lot of restrictions in different cultures during a solar eclipse. But, none of them is backed by science. ALSO READ:When is Mercury in Retrograde in April and May 2023?
Science refutes the myths
A number of cultures across the world consider solar eclipse as a bad omen, so women are not only forced to remain cooped up at home but they also aren’t allowed to eat or drink until the eclipse ends.
While the Mexican superstition holds that an unborn child would have its face bit off if the pregnant woman views the eclipse, Indian culture believes the eclipse represents the head of the demon Rahu known as the “King of Meteors”.
The myth claims if a pregnant woman is exposed to “harmful radiations”, the child would be born with deformities.
However, science doesn’t agree with the above beliefs. Obstetrician-gynecologist at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Shafia Bhutto explained to Dispatch in 2017, “There is nothing that will happen to your unborn baby during an eclipse because they are in your uterus.”
Don’t worry about Hybrid Solar Eclipse while you’re pregnant
Even the Astronomical Society of India (ASI) has refused the beliefs of its own land by clarifying that the phenomenon between the sun, the Earth, and the moon does not emit any kind of dangerous rays that can negatively impact a pregnant woman’s health.
“It‘s just a play of shadows, the sun, moon, and earth don’t change their basic nature. There is no change in the rays of the sun; it is the same thing if a person stood in the shadow of a building,” said the head of the public outreach and education committee of ASI.
Obviously, like any individual, watching the eclipse with the naked eye can cause permanent damage in pregnant women as well. So, always make sure you’re using eclipse glasses or lenses certified as safe.
Furthermore, science experts argue we are exposed to lesser sunlight during the eclipse as the moon covers it, so there is no way the rays can cause any damage to adults or the fetus inside of a womb.
Spiritual meaning of the April 2023 eclipse
There is no evidence to prove that the hybrid solar eclipse on April 20, 2023, could cause any physical harm. Still, its impact is observed closely in astrology as the process is believed to create energies that can either turn you joyful or leave you extremely overwhelmed.
The light, heat, and vitality from the sun can merge with the emotions and feelings the moon represents, to cause dramatic changes within ourselves and around the world.
The days following the eclipse are when you may start to notice changes in your life and the end of something could mark new beginnings.
However, as it may be hard to take control of the powerful energies, astrologers recommend silence and meditation to remain grounded.
