Sean Payton, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, is the subject of the latest Netflix movie currently in the beginning stages of creation.
The movie, which begins shooting next month, will star Kevin James as Sean Payton himself, and will be title Home Team.
Home Team tells the story of how Sean Payton coached his son’s sixth grade football team during his one year suspension from coaching in the NFL.
Why was Sean Payton suspended?
In 2012, Sean Payton was suspended by the NFL for one year without pay after being accused of trying to cover up a system of extra cash payout.
Following the scandal, the Saints issued a statement, saying:
“To our fans, the NFL and the rest of our league, we offer our sincere apology and take full responsibility for these serious violations. It has always been the goal of the New Orleans Saints to create a model franchise and to impact our league in a positive manner. There is no place for bounties in our league and we reiterate our pledge that this will never happen again.”
According to the league, Sean Payton ignored instructions from the NFL and Saints ownership to make sure bounties weren’t being paid.
Kevin James cast in new Sean Payton Netflix movie
Kevin James will be starring as Sean Payton in the new Netflix movie Home Team, which tells the events in Sean’s life during the year he was suspended.
During his one year suspension, Sean Payton coached his son’s sixth grade football team, something which he called “the most enjoyable season” for him ever.
Peter King reported that Sean read and edited the script himself, which means the story will be pretty accurate.
The film begins shooting in New Orleans and Los Angeles next month.
