There is a full moon tonight and everyone is calling it the ‘full moon in Cancer’ – but what does that mean?
It will be at its peak on Friday, January 6 at 6:08pm ET (11:08pm GMT), but the moon will still appear full the night after, on Saturday too.
The full moon in January is nicknamed the Wolf Moon and occurs every year, followed by the Snow Moon in February and Worm Moon in March.

‘Full moon in Cancer’ meaning explained
People are referring to the January full moon as being ‘in Cancer’ because that’s its Zodiac position in the sky.
There are 12 different constellations, which are groups of stars in particular shapes, in a circle around the Sun that make up the Zodiac.
As Space.com explains, the sun, moon and planets move along a set path through the sky called the ecliptic, and the constellations are on this line.
The 12 constellations are Taurus, Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
Tonight, when the full moon occurs, the moon will be at 16 degrees and in the Cancer section of the sky, which is why we say ‘full moon in Cancer’.
In astronomy, Cancer lies in the northern part of sky between Leo and Gemini, and occupies an area of 506 square degrees.
Full moons can occur in different Zodiacs throughout the year, such as ‘full moon in Gemini’ or ‘full moon in Aquarius’.

Each full moon has different spiritual traits
People who believe in horoscopes and spirituality think every moon has a different meaning depending on its position in the sky.
So, a full moon in Leo would be very different to a full moon in Capricorn for example, and will determine different things in your life.
Cancer, which is symbolised by the crab, is a water sign which is ruled by the moon and is very protective and emotional.
So, many think this full moon will make everyone very emotional. If you find yourself crying a lot tonight, you’ll know why.
Full moons are all about release, and the moon in Cancer could have you going through the motions, reflecting, and wanting to shout your feelings.

Many think it’s a great day for manifestation
Due to the strong astronomical energy, many choose to manifest when there is a full moon.
Manifestation is a self-help and success strategy that involves making all your wishes come true by mentally visualising them.
You set a specific goal that you want to achieve and take steps to make it happen, like writing it down over and over and saying it out loud.
The more specific the aspiration the better, and people manifest things like buying their dream house or passing an exam.
In the meantime, you start working towards your goal and let the universe do the rest. Find a popular manifestation method here.
