A TikTok user has gone viral after noticing that Jennifer Aniston has a verbal tic in Friends, and now fans can’t un-hear it.
If you’re a fan of the comedy Friends, you’ll never watch the show the same way again after watching this TikTok.
A TikTok user has gone viral after highlighting that Jennifer Aniston, who plays Rachel Green in the TV show, has a verbal tic, and some fans are wishing they’d never found out the revelation.
But others have come up with an explanation for it, claiming that it’s actually just part of her acting.
TikTok user notices Jennifer Aniston’s verbal tic
A new trend has been circling TikTok this month that sees people sharing things that they’ve noticed in TV shows and movies that has changed the way they view it forever.
One TikTok user called @cts.trphe shared his media trope back in January, and it’s gone viral online. He said: “Technically this isn’t a trope, but what I’m about to say is going to ruin your life, especially if you’re a fan of the TV show Friends.”
“Jennifer Aniston has this sort of vocal tic that she does at the beginning of every single sentence she starts, on any show that she’s done. It’s very specific and it’s very hard to un-see once you notice it,” he continued.
He then showed a montage of clips of Jennifer Aniston in Friends, and revealed that she does in fact have a verbal tic. She continuously clears her throat at the start of every sentence, and it’s very noticeable.
Fans think it’s just part of her acting
The TikTok video has had one million views and 175,000 likes, and now some fans are saying they’ll never be able to watch Friends the same way again.
But others have come up with a different reason for her verbal tic, arguing that she’s actually doing it on purpose.
One person commented: “I thought it was just acting? To indicate that the character is uncomfy. She only seems to do it in situations that are a little awkward.”
“It’s not a ‘tic’ it’s because the situation is awkward so the character tries to break the silence, Jen just does it as part of the character,” wrote another.
Another person said: “A lot of people have crutches when acting when they don’t know what else to do, a lot of people sigh or grunt.”
Others thought that the tic could have been heightened because she smoked at the time.
It’s not just Jennifer Aniston that does it
It’s not just Jennifer Aniston that has the verbal tic either, a lot of actors and actresses do the same thing. Now you’re aware of it, you’ll probably notice it a lot more.
A lot of the TikTok comments claimed that Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively does it a lot too. “This reminds me of Blake Lively, she stutters every sentence,” one person wrote.
So, perhaps the TikTok didn’t uncover a big secret after all, and the verbal tic is far more common than you think.
