Poco band’s Rusty Young has died
Poco co-founding member Rusty Young died of a heart attack on Wednesday (April 14th) at his Davisville, Missouri home.
The sad news was confirmed by Poco’s Richie Furay. In a statement to Variety, Richie said:
“I just received word that my friend Rusty Young has passed away and crossed that line into eternity. My heart is saddened; he was a dear and longtime friend who helped me pioneer and create a new Southern California musical sound called ‘country rock’.
“He was an innovator on the steel guitar and carried the name Poco on for more than 50 years. Our friendship was real and he will be deeply missed. My prayers are with his wife, Mary, and his children Sara and Will.”
Rusty wrote Poco’s biggest hit, the 1978 ‘Crazy Love’, which became the No. 1 adult contemporary song of 1979.
Who is Rusty Young’s wife?
Rusty Young’s wife is called Mary. They met 20 years ago in Steelville, Missouri.
She is a retired kindergarten teacher, author and special education teacher. In 2013, she self-published three books and has spent many years working in the publishing industry.
Mary has volunteered at elementary schools where her goal was to “share her stories and encourage children to become writers”, according to a 2013 interview.
Speaking in the interview, Mary said: “I chose to publish my children’s books mainly because it’s fun! Also, it opens doors for my team of illustrators who share in the profit from book sales. I have another ten stories still waiting to be illustrated and make their way from my computer to printed books and then into the hands of children.
“Actually, as a retired Kindergarten and Special Education Teacher, my style seems to lend itself to books that entertain the adult reader as well as the children listening to the story. When a child says, “Read it again!”. I think it’s important that the reader enjoys the story too.”
She has revealed that she finds inspiration from nature and the surroundings of their log cabin home which looks at a river within the Mark Twain National Forest in rural Missouri.
