A performance of Broadway’s Death of a Salesman was interrupted by a heckler on Tuesday (December 27) and Wendell Pierce handled the whole thing very calmly.
The 3-hour long stage play, written by Arthur Miller, is currently being performed at the Hudson Theatre on 44th Street.
Olivier Award nominee Wendell Pierce and Tony nominee Sharon D Clarke play lead roles Willy and Linda Loman in the famous tragedy.
Meet the Stars of Broadway-Bound DEATH OF A SALESMAN
The New York revival, which began in September 2022, is in its final few weeks – and it’s now the talk of the internet thanks to the disruptive woman.
Heckler disrupts Broadway’s Death of a Salesman
A video posted by another audience member on Twitter reveals that the woman in a fur coat disrupted the play at the beginning of Act 2.
The clip shows the rowdy heckler casually walk up to the foot of the stage before shouting at Wendell who is stood above her.
She hurls abuse at the actor and stops the entire show as others in the audience watch and film the altercation in disbelief.
It’s not clear what the woman is saying in the video, but The Wire star says he will guarantee her money back if that’s what she wants.
She was escorted out by police
In the video, Wendell repeatedly says he will give her a refund but she continues shouting and the actor walks off the stage.
She then stands in silence at the front of the theatre for a while before two policers arrive to escort her out and the crowd cheers in the background.
“We’re grateful to the entire team at the Hudson Theatre for working together to resolve the situation and resume the performance as quickly as possible,” the show’s producers told The Post.
Internet users are in disbelief
The videos have gone viral online where social media users are shocked by the rude altercation.
One person wrote: “I’m dumbfounded why someone would interrupt @WendellPierce during a Death Of A Salesman. He’s a class act who doesn’t deserve that disrespect.”
“This is one of the craziest theater interruptions I’ve ever seen. How do you interrupt Death of a Salesman like this?? @WendellPierce was very kind but I would have told that drunk lady to get out,” said another.
A third person added: “Performance of Death of a Salesman on Broadway halted due to a disruptive audience member. A really sad and disturbing sight to see. One person spoiling things for everyone.”
“This lady verbally assaulting Wendell Pierce on stage during Death of a Salesman is exactly why we can’t have nice things. He did not deserve that,” another tweeted.
Someone else said: “Just saw a video of an audience member arguing with Wendell Pierce during his performance of Death of a salesman and when I tell you my entire being got viscerally upset.”
