Why do Daisy Jones And The Six break up?
After their epic performance at Chicago’s Soldier Field, Daisy Jones And The Six call it quits. At the height of their fame, the decision to break up stumped fans in the decades since.
There are four major reasons why the band break up explained at the end of the book:
- Daisy and Billy had fallen in love
- Karen and Graham had fallen out after she fell pregnant
- Eddie was done working with Billy
- Pete was planning to leave the band to settle down
Daisy Jones And The Six book ending explained
At the end of the book, it is revealed that Camila Dunne (Camila Morrone) asked Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) to leave the band. It became clear to Camila, Daisy, and Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin) that Daisy and Billy had fallen in love. It was taking a toll on both singers as Billy was never going to sacrifice his relationship with Camila.
“Daisy, he loves you. You know that he loves you,” Camila says at the end of the book. “I KNOW that he loves you. But he’s not going to leave me.”
Daisy Jones packs up and books herself onto a flight, gets clean, and distances herself entirely from the band. She eventually adopts two sons and remains friends with Simone (Nabiyah Be).
Part of Billy’s character development centers on his desire to build a stable home for his daughters. Falling in love with Daisy jeopardizes this. After Teddy’s death, Billy doubts whether he can record another album. He knows that he needs Daisy to successfully write. So, Billy gives it all up for the sake of his family.
One of the story’s romantic plot lines follows the secret relationship between Karen Sirko (Suki Waterhouse) and Graham Dunne (Will Harrison). Karen falls pregnant with Graham’s child but decides to get an abortion, as she does not wish to settle down with Graham, or anyone.
Eddie (Josh Whitehouse) doesn’t want to work with Billy anymore, as he feels undervalued in the band. His brother, Pete, lays out his intentions to leave the band to settle down. Pete hasn’t been given a role in the Amazon Prime Video adaptation. His role will likely be merged with others in the band for the TV show. Cr. Pamela Littky/Prime Video
Taylor Jenkins Reid included a twist ending
One of the twists at the end of Daisy Jones And The Six book is the identity of the interviewer. The book is written in an interview format to make it feel true to life. In the end, the interviewer is revealed to be Billy and Camila Dunne’s daughter, Julia.
Julia decided to tell the story of her parents and the band after Camila Dunne passes away. Camila dies of lupus complications at the age of 63.
We’re waiting on tenterhooks to see if the TV adaptation gives viewers the same twist.
