“It’s 2022, and it’s time to look up, time to take action rather than sit on the sidelines.” The group captioned a pre-recorded video message by the 21-year-old, “It’s time to act like it’s an emergency.”
The campaign, Just Stop Oil, wishes to mobilize “people from all forms of life to oppose the plans for new UK oil fields” in 2022.
According to local police, he was arrested on suspicion of pitch intrusion.

Louis McKechnie is a mechanical engineering student who is a member of the ‘Just Stop Oil’ group according to his Wikipedia bio. He is protesting along with other members of the campaign against the North Sea’s new oil fields.
He is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Bournemouth University, according to his LinkedIn profile. McKechnie is expected to graduate in 2024 with a Master of Engineering degree.
Previously, he has worked at Bennett’s Fish and Chips in Weymouth, England, as a waiter and kitchen employee. From September 2018 to November 2019, he worked at a Co-op as a gross sales assistant to make a living.
He is raising awareness about the negative effects of oil, and believes that people need to be aware of what the future may hold.”I believe that as many people as possible should be aware of what the future may hold,” McKechnie said.
McKechnie had previously served a three-month sentence for a separate protest and was released in January.
