Lil Nas X is bringing Satan shoes by collaborating with MSCHF. Here’s a look at who is Gabriel Whaley, the man Lil Nas X is working with, and what MSCHF means.
On March 27, social media went into a frenzy after Lil Nas X revealed he would be dropping ‘Satan Shoes.’ The news came after the release of his song ‘Montero (Call me by your name)’ on March 26. Amid this, the name that came forward was MSCHF. Here’s what we know about the company and the man behind it.
Who is Gabriel Whaley?
Gabriel is the founder and CEO of MSCHF. People were curious to know more about Gabriel after the collaboration with Lil Nas X came to light. Before starting his own business, Gabriel used to work at Buzzfeed. However, he soon realized that the job wasn’t for him.
Soon, Gabriel realized how the internet can be used to make a profit. In an interview, he said: “I think people have missed a big opportunity on the internet. While it is an insanely efficient distribution vessel for content, no one has really pushed the envelope of ‘the internet’ as a story-telling medium. As an art form.”
He finally got a chance when Casper decided to put their faith in his idea, and thus, MSCHF was formed. Gabriel admitted that the internet is filled with ideas and all he wanted to do was make use of them.
MSCHF meaning explored
MSCHF stands for miscellaneous mischief. Gabriel thought it described his work the best. The description for the website reads: “MSCHF creates some cynical and viral projects and products that have spread across the internet.”
Gabriel has worked his way up and made sure that his idea has turned into a brand. In an interview, Gabriel said: “The day I pivot into other services, like PR, branding, etc, I commoditize MSCHF and that’s just not the business I want to run. I’m in the business of creativity, and I want to keep it that way.”
