The grey tabby cat has almost 40,000 followers on Instagram where his owner documents his life.
Ponzu has hit headlines this week after the feline was sadly killed in an accident in New York.

Who is Chanan Aksornnan?
Chanan Aksornnan is the owner of Ponzu the famous Instagram cat, as well as another cat called Kimchi, a Shiba Inu dog called Tofu and a Sun Conure bird called Mango.
She documents the lives of her pets on the Instagram account @PonzuCoolCat and has accumulated a mass following who love to keep up with their daily lives.
Not much is known about Chanan, but she is a Thai woman who lives in New York City.
Ponzu has died in a tragic accident
The Instagram famous cat has passed away following an altercation in a park in Brooklyn on April 4th.
As reported by the New York Post, a boy accidentally tripped over Ponzu’s leash in McCarren Park near Greenpoint and injured him.
However, the incident quickly escalated after the group “did not offer an apology” and began “arguing” which Chanan claimed escalated into “physical assault”.
A video from the altercation shows Chanan and her boyfriend being “punched and kicked” and police were called to the scene.
The woman fled the scene but has now been arrested.
Chanan announces Ponzu’s death on Instagram
On April 7th, Chanan took to Instagram to announce Ponzu’s death.
In a tragic post, she wrote:
“Dear Friends – it is with an immense sadness and anguish that we bring you this tragic news: our beloved Ponzu died on Easter Sunday after suffering shock and injuries from an incident in our park.”
She said that they are “traumatised, lost for words and heartbroken” before revealing that a police investigation is currently ongoing after her family was “physically assaulted”.
“We feel robbed. Ponzu was taken away from us way too soon. He was only 3 years and 4 months old. We lost our beloved boy. Mango, Tofu, and Kimchi lost their brother,” she continued.
Chanan then spoke about how “kind” and “special” Ponzu was before writing: “We will love, remember, and cherish him forever. Rest in peace our beautiful boy. Mommy, Daddy, Mango, Tofu, and Kimchi.”
She has also set up a GoFundMe called “Justice for Ponzu” to help fun the legal battle she anticipates to ensue.
