Kim was driving her car to relocate fruit trees on their Georgia farm when she collided with her 17-month-old son. “I had just seen him and felt it was acceptable,” Kim remembered in a 2019 episode.
“However, I ran over him.” Kim, who was expecting her eighth child at the time, claims that none of the children were present to witness the event.
While Kim was praying, an ambulance and emergency personnel came to the scene. Despite the team’s greatest attempts to save him, the toddler died.
According to the Thomasville Times Enterprise, the occurrence was considered an accident by the local Sheriff’s office.

“I considered the charges I would have leveled against Barry if the situation had been reversed,” Kim wrote. “However, he never followed through. He never even hinted at such a thing. He was powerful. He simply adored me.”
Kim also told producers about the event during a season 2 episode. “I am probably my greatest accuser, and that was a struggle I had the first year he died,” she added. “I was essentially shut off.”
The two-hour episode of Welcome to Plathville, which focused on the family’s tense reunion when they gather for Joshua’s memorial, airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
