That Vegan Teacher uploaded a video on YouTube, spelling out the N-word next to a black doll. We’re just as confused as you are.
TikToker That Vegan Teacher first surfaced on the app with her controversial videos about veganism. Recently, she got banned from the platform.
Now, That Vegan Teacher has made an attempt at a social media comeback on YouTube, but bizarrely chose to spell out the N-word in it.
Her channel has only 39,000 subscribers but the video has racked up over 600,000 views already, after being posted on March 2nd.
That Vegan Teacher spelled out the N-word.
Yep. The video titled, ‘Are You Racist?’ confused viewers right from the start.
The TikToker begins by showing a black doll, pointing out her “beautiful eyes, beautiful smile, beautiful curly hair, beautiful skin.”
“What do you think of the idea of banning cruelty, but not words?” she asks.
“Can you think of some words right now that are banned? What are they? What are some of the words that you’re never allowed to write?”
She goes on to ask if banning words is a good idea: “If we say we can’t say the N-word, but then, people ban even saying ‘the N-word,’ then ‘the N-word’ becomes the ex-N-word—the N-word that used to be the other N-word, and it never ends. It just goes on and on and on.”
Finally, she moves the camera to side and suggests reclaiming words, asking about the doll: “Does this girl seem to you like she might be Naturally Intelligent, Gorgeous, Generous, Exemplary, and Radiant?”
We will leave it to you to figure out what the acronym spells. If you watch the video however, That Vegan Teach does it for you, writing it out with the initials in a different colour.
Reactions to the YouTube video
Unsurprisingly, the video was met with entirely negative responses.
“This gotta be trolling,” wrote one viewer.
Some couldn’t believe the N-word video from That Vegan Teacher was even real: “Dude I thought this was fake,” commented a viewer.
While some called out her idea of ‘reclaiming’ the word as harmful in itself: “What a dreadful thing to do. Encouraging young children who will see this that if they’re called a N****r, THIS is what it means, when really they’re being ridiculed and mocked for the colour of their skin. Mocking the thousands of years of hardship black people have gone through for your own agenda.”
