David Stephenson was an English rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
He played club level rugby union (RU) for Fylde Rugby Club, representative level rugby league (RL) for Great Britain, and at club level for Salford (two spells), Wigan, Leeds, and Leigh, as a goal-kicking wing or centre.
David Stephenson was born on December 3, 1958, in Lytham St Annes, United Kingdom. He studied at Arnold School in Blackpool.
Stephenson began his career with Salford. He spent four seasons with Salford at the Willows, where he would represent Lancashire and Great Britain Under-24s.
He later joined Wigan, scoring a brace of tries and a drop-goal on his Wigan debut in a 20-12 victory over St Helens in the Challenge Cup.
Stephenson won 12 trophies with Wigan, including one Premiership, one League title, two Challenge Cups and the 1987 World Club Challenge.
He spent seven seasons with Wigan, playing 214 games, scoring 71 tries and converting 286 goals.
David Stephenson subsequently joined Leeds in 1998 for £75,000, where he enjoyed two seasons, making 36 appearances. He crossed for five tries and kicked 89 goals.
He passed away on March 15, 2022, at the age of 63.
