Ron began his career at AT&T as a management training, right after he graduated from the Business school, where he worked for almost a year. He later joined the Navy joining Officer Candidate School. In his three years in the Navy, he served as a volunteer for destroyer and the public information officer of the ship. He later joined the media as a war correspondent and later joined a couple of small film production companies in Boston.
He later shifted into advertising and worked as an account manager for three advertising agencies. In 1976 he got a job as a furniture maker which lasted for a month. In 1977 he opened a shop, Cow Hollow Woodworks, which he owned for almost fifteen years. In 1989 he made his first television appearance on Good Morning, Bay Area. His first segment was about how to clean furniture and later expanded to anything related to the home.
When the show went off the air, the producer asked Ron to co-produce and host, ‘The House Doctor’ in 1989, the show was initially made for KGO-TV, but later launched on HGTV in January 1995. In September 1996, Ron joined Good Morning America as Home Improvement Editor. His role was to report on home-related topics which include home improvement, maintenance, repair, health, and safety.
Ron is a master craftsman and cabinet maker who specializes in the “do-it-yourself” home improvement information field. Hazelton hosted and co-produced a home improvement television series on the Home and Garden Television Network (HGTV). He has been featured in many television shows, as a home improvement expert, such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Discovery Channel’s Popular Mechanics, and Lifetime Television’s Our Home.
Ron also hosted ‘Hands on History’ on History Channel and also other programs such as Modern Marvels and Save our History: Frontier Homes on the same channel. Ron is also the founder of the online destination www.ronhazelton.com. Ron is the national spokesperson of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition, a non-profit, fire safety organization.
