Robert Carlyle is a Scottish actor. He has appeared in several notable films like “Trainspotting” and its sequel, “The Full Monty”, “The World Is Not Enough”, and “Angela’s Ashes”. He has also appeared in many television series like “Hamish Macbeth”, “Stargate Universe”, and “Once Upon a Time”. His works have won him some awards like a BAFTA award for Best Actor in a Leading role among others.
He was inspired to go into acting by reading Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible”. He is also a patron of School For Life in Romania, besides his acting career.

He got involved with acting at age 21 at the Glasgow Arts Centre and subsequently graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD). He, together with four of his friends, founded a theatre company, “Raindog” mostly involved with theatre and television work in 1991. In that same year, he got a guest starring position in the film “The Bill”, and also starred in his first movie “Riff-Raff”.
He appeared in his n the two highest-profile roles of his career to date “Trainspotting” and “The Full Monty” in 1996 and 1997 respectively. The latter earned Carlyle a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He had an appearance in the 2002 Oasis music video for “Little By Little”. He narrated a BBC audiobook version of “The Cutting Room” in 2008. In the same year, he was also cast as Dr. Nicholas Rush in the television series “Stargate Universe”.

In December 2008, Carlyle appeared in “24: Redemption”, a television movie based on the popular TV series “24”, starring alongside Kiefer Sutherland. He appeared in a commercial of Johnny Walker titled “The Man Who Walked Around The World.” He voiced the character Gabriel Belmont, and his counterpart, Dracula in the video game “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow”, as well as its sequels “Mirror of Fate” and “Lords of Shadow 2.”
He has been playing as Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin in the fantasy-drama television series “Once Upon A Time” from 2011 to 2018.

Robert Carlyle Will Appear In New War of the Worlds Mini-Series
The BBC is adapting H.G. Wells’ classic 1898 novel “The War of the Worlds”, with Robert Carlyle, set to appear. The mini-series is set in turn of the century Edwardian England. The story follows George (Rafe Spall, Poldark) and Amy (Eleanor Tomlinson, The Big Short), attempting to defy society and start a new life together — unaware of the upcoming alien invasion. Rupert Graves (Sherlock) also stars as Frederick, George’s older brother. Carlyle will play Ogilvy, an astronomer, and scientist who discovers an impending alien invasion of Earth.
