Adele and Philip Perlman on March 31st , 1948, the world welcomed their first child, Rhea Jo. She was born in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Her father worked in a doll factory and her mother worked as an accountant until the family moved to Los Angeles. While they lived in Los Angeles, her father appeared in television shows and films, but only as an extra.
Rhea Jo has a younger sister named Heidi, a writer for television and also produces television shows. She is of Polish and Russian-Jewish descent. In 1964 she graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn and graduated from Hunter College in New York. In 1968, Perlman graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts in drama.
Rhea Perlman began professional acting in 1972 before landing a small role in Dracula Sabbat, an Off-Off-Broadway production that ran from 1970-1971. Her biggest role to date is as Carla Tortelli on the show Cheers which she joined in 1983 . She was one of the three original members of the cast who stayed with the show until its demise and also appeared in the show’s two hundred and three episodes.
For work on the show, Perlman won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1989, and for the eleven years she was on the show, she was nominated for an Emmy every year except 1992. Perlman was the cast member with the highest amount of Emmy nominations and wins on the show as well. Her recognition by award bodies is not limited to the Emmys, but also to the Oscars, where she was nominated six times for Best Supporting Actress. She is the only person in the history of the awards to have received so many nominations in this category.

Married to Danny DeVito
As her career took off in the early ’70s, Rhea Perlman met Danny DeVito, to whom she later married. They met in 1971 on the set of The Shrinking Bride, a play in which DeVito starred.
In less than a month after meeting, they moved in together. The two have appeared on screen as couples several times since first appearing on the television show Taxi and in Maltida where she acted as his wife.
The couple married in 1982 and their first child, Lucy Chet, was born the next year. The other two children are Grace Fan and Jacob Daniel, the former was born in 1985 and the latter in 1987.
