TikTok’s Payphone meme is the latest to go viral. Let’s take a look at where the TikTok came from, what it involves and how on earth it has turned into a multi-use meme.
The TikTok app’s tagline is “Make Your Day” and that’s exactly what it has been doing for many users. Conquering the lockdown blues and putting a smile on TikTokkers’ faces, there’s a new viral trend every week to get involved in. The Payphone TikTok meme has had viewers in stitches. So, where did it come from?
What is the Payphone TikTok?
Maroon 5’s 2012 hit song Payphone has done the rounds on TikTok. Serving as background music for many videos where users mime along to the words, Payphone isn’t the first chart song that’s gone viral on the video-sharing app.
The hashtag #Payphone has 104.4M views on TikTok. Many have remixed the tune to speed it up or alter the song’s pitch.
The Payphone hashtag has been around a while, but it seems that it has been given a new lease of life in 2021.
Filming his usual set up of himself sat at his gaming computer, Ronaldo recorded himself belting out the Maroon 5 single and now his TikTok has gone viral.
With many finding Stable Ronaldo’s singalong hilarious, they decided to repurpose his video and make memes out of it.
Ronaldo can be found on Twitter where he describes himself as “Probably the loudest person on twitch” @StableRonaldo with around 700k followers.
The Payphone TikTok meme goes viral
After Stable Ronaldo was captured singing his heart out and dancing around his room to Payphone, many TikTok users took the opportunity to make hilarious memes featuring the video.
Some memes involved suggesting that “this is what boys do” when their “mates girlfriend joins the party”.
Others captioned the video “2AM PS parties be like”. And a further TikTok user wrote that the video is what boys are doing in the PlayStation party while their girlfriends think they’re “out there cheating…”.
