In Winning Time, who portrays Bob McAdoo? The HBO news series is based on the book Showtime, which depicts the heyday of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball club.
The documentary ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty’ chronicles the Los Angeles Lakers as they grow into one of basketball’s most recognizable teams.
Under interim Head Coach Paul Westhead and his assistant, Pat Riley, the team achieves a pioneering form, led by performances by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson.
While the duo’s suggestions are beneficial to the club, when Jack McKinney returns from his injuries, he promptly dismisses their suggestion that Bob McAdoo replaces Spencer Haywood.
Who Plays Bob McAdoo In Winning Time? Actors Details
As of this writing, no official statement about the actor who would play Bob McAdoo in Winning Time has been released.
The Los Angeles Lakers were also ready to deal Spencer Haywood to the Detroit Pistons, according to Winning Time, episode 8 of the show.
Even though the club had just acquired Haywood earlier in the season, Pat Riley believes that dealing him for Bob McAdoo is too enticing an offer to pass up.
However, during the 1979-1980 season, it is unknown if the Lakers were interested in trading Spencer Haywood.
The absurdity of Winning Time’s apparent fabrication is that the Lakers do ultimately trade for Bob McAdoo. Still, Haywood was not included in the trade deal given to the New Jersey Nets, where McAdoo was playing by 1981.
Details On Bob McAdoo Lakers Trade
After being selected by the Buffalo Braves in the 1972 NBA Draft, Robert Allen McAdoo Jr began his career in the league (now known as the Los Angeles Clippers).
Similarly, he signed with the New Jersey Nets after becoming a free agent but only played ten games with them before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in December 1981.
Reportedly, Haywood was no longer with the Lakers at that point. McAdoo earned two NBA titles while playing with the Lakers from 1981 to 1985.
He did, however, spend much of his time as a backup and dealt with a number of ailments. In 1986, his contract with the team came to an end, and he left.
Where Is Bob McAdoo Now?
McAdoo played with the Philadelphia 76ers after departing the Lakers, where he only played for the team for one season before leaving the NBA to pursue a career in Europe.
Besides, he remained a member of the Miami Heat after stepping down as an assistant coach in 2014. He went on to become a scout and a community liaison, positions he still fills today.
McAdoo is now based in the Florida city of Boca Raton. In 2021, he was chosen to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, which honors McAdoo’s accomplishments in the game throughout the years.
