Mike Pence is an American attorney, politician, and broadcaster. He served as Vice President of the United States of America. As a Tea Party and conservative Republican, he represented Indiana’s second and sixth congressional districts in the House of Representatives from 2001 until 2013.

A son of Ann Jane Cawley and Edward Joseph Pence Jr., he is one of six children of the couple, who owned several gas stations and served in the Korean War. In 1953, he was awarded Bronze, and Pence has it on display in his office. Richard Michael Cawley, his maternal grandpa, was the inspiration for his name. Pence worked as an attorney in private practice after graduating from Indiana in 1986. He ran for a Congressional seat in 1988 but lost to Democratic candidate Philip Sharp. He ran for the seat again in 1990 against Sharp but lost again. By this time, he was working and had quit his job in order to fully focus on the campaigns. After losing a second time, he started working as conservative radio and television host for talk shows. He hosted the talk shows from 1994 to 1999.
In 2000, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives to represent Indiana’s 2nd and 6th congressional districts between starting from 2001 to 2013. From 2005 to 2007, he was the chair of the Republican Study Committee. He later chaired the House of Republican Conference between 2009 and 2011. This is the third-highest position in the House of Republican leadership.
In the 2012 Indiana gubernatorial election, Pence was nominated after Mitch Daniel’s retirement. In January 2013, he became the governor and helped to initiate the largest tax cut in history.
