Brania Jackson a 17 year old lady gave birth to her son and held him for the first time, the newborn baby never opened his eyes or cried.
Doctors thought nothing of it initially, until they tried to examine his condition by lifting his eyelids and saw only flesh underneath.
The baby whose name is Jordy Jackson was born in Nov 10, without eyes, a shock to his family and doctors at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He has an extremely rare congenital disorder called anophthalmia, a condition sometimes caused by genetic anomalies.
According to the baby mother Brania Jackson, she didn’t know what to do, didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what to feel emotionally, said Brania, a high school junior, as she and her boyfriend, 18–years–old Kyle Jackson were feeding their child in her Peoria height home.
Amid the whir of midnight bottles, schoolwork, and diaper change, the teenager parants and their families are preparing for an intense schedule of visual, physical therapies for Jordy and occupational responsibilities. Unlike some who were blind or visually impaired but still have eyes.
Jordy was born into total darkness without even the ability to perceive light, the sensation that helps guide circadian rhythm and seperates day from night.
Family members who knew the pregnancy will be a challenging one from the start, quickly rallied to support Jordy upon learning his diagnosis, calling him a blessing. And the child learns to roll over and crawl and walker without his eyes, his parents say they’ll be learning to read and write in Braille.
Jordy’s family took him to his first appointment for cosmetic treatment, and eventually prosthetic eyes, at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois college of medicine at Chicago. The mother of this child is excited one day to see her son face with Irishes and pupils just like other children, though she know he won’t be looking back.
According to grandmother Niatese Giles, Brania Jackson’s mother, who takes care of the child, All the people he loves and who loves him, he will know them by feeling them.
Brania Jackson went as far as, drawing a tattoo on her left shoulder blade, indicating “I love Jordy”. Everyone in the family plans as well to ink a similar phrase in raised bumps on their own bodies.
According to Giles, her grandson will leave his life without viewing horrible sights. He will never see images of war, hunger and cruelty.
He won’t have to feel the pain that they go through. That’s a beautiful thing. She concluded.
Being born blind didn’t deprived Jordy Jackson from his joy, insisted it prevented him from seeing the evil things which the world have produced.
