On January 12, according to TMZ, Lisa Marie Presley experienced a heart arrest. Years prior to this, the singer had been candid about her issues with drugs and her health.
Lisa Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, was taken to the hospital on January 12 together with her mother Priscilla.
In 2014, the singer opened up about the health struggles that led to her canceling her tour.
Lisa Marie Presley has had health struggles
Back in 2014, Lisacanceled her US tour due to a health struggle. At that time, the singer had complained about chronic back pain.
As per TMZ, her back pain had become unbearable as the singer was continuously going on tours since June 2012.
At the same time, the singer had written in her 2004 book that she was “grateful to be alive” after struggling with addiction.
What she said in her book
As per Mirror, Lisa looked back at how losing people close to her pushed her to addiction. She said: “You may read this and wonder how, after losing people close to me, I also fell prey to opioids.”
“I was recovering after the birth of my daughters, Vivienne and Finley, when a doctor prescribed me opioids for pain. It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital for me to feel the need to keep taking them. Even in recent years, I have seen too many people I loved struggle with addiction and die tragically from this epidemic.”
She continued: “It is time for us to say goodbye to shame about addiction. We have to stop blaming and judging ourselves and the people around us. That starts with sharing our stories.”
“I’m grateful to be alive today… and to have four beautiful children who have given me a sense of purpose that has carried me through dark times.”
