The New Year celebrations would have surely resulted in a lot of garbage accumulation at home, restaurants, and all the other places, but will it be picked up today, January 2, 2023?
Several food businesses opened for limited hours on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day to serve customers their favorite food.
On the contrary, many of you chose to cook a delicious meal at home for yourself and your family. And, let’s not forget the other additionals like munchies, soft drinks, and of course, alcohol!
Birthday: 31st of January
So, if you’re waiting to dispose of all the waste collected from two days of partying, let us tell you about garbage pickup today.
Is there garbage pickup on January 2, 2023?
The answer is yes and no. While the garbage collection will occur as usual in some cities, the service will not take place in other regions due to the holiday falling on a Sunday, which will then be observed on Monday.
The garbage collection will not take place as the drop-off sites will be closed on January 2, 2023.
A press release shared by the City of Madison notes: “As a result of these holidays falling on a Sunday, Streets Division collections will not occur on Monday, December 26, 2022, and Monday, January 2, 2023. Drop-off sites will also be closed on these two days.”
In Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, however, “both garbage and recycling will take place, as scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023,” reads a notice.
Even the City of Phoenix has confirmed that trash will be collected by the staff as usual today.
To know if the service is available in your locality, check for the holiday schedule on the official website.
What is closed today?
All government services, banks, and even the Stock Market will remain closed today in observance of the public holiday.
Online banking services will, however, not be affected. Customer service will also work at reduced capacity at most banks on the holiday, so check with your local branch before heading out.
The Stock Market is generally closed on the weekend and there is no obligation for it to follow the federal holiday schedule, although it mostly does. So investors have to wait until Tuesday to get back to trading.
The post office will also remain closed and no mail will be delivered today. Express Delivery service, however, will still be available.
What is open?
All restaurants, malls, supermarkets, and departmental stores will resume business starting today. Many of them were closed on the weekend to allow their staff to celebrate the New Year.
Many retailers have begun their New Year sale, so you can make use of your day off by shopping from your favorite brands.
If you just want to have a relaxing day, you can head out to any food or coffee chain around your place to grab a bite or a refreshing beverage as restaurants will be open to customers during their regular hours starting today.
