Frank Ocean remembered his late brother Ryan Breaux during his Coachella 2023 performance and his moving speech had fans in tears.
The Coachella 2023 show was Frank Ocean‘s first performance since 2019. The elusive singer was set to perform at the music festival in 2020 but the event was canceled due to COVID-19.
Given that Frank was returning to the stage after a long time, the anticipation around his performance was at a fever pitch.

The Novacane singer brought a thrilling set at Coachella this year. In addition to that, he also remembered his younger brother Ryan, with whom he would often attend the music festival.

Frank Ocean’s brother Ryan Breaux died in a car accident at age 18
The 35-year-old singer whose real name is Christopher Edwin Breaux, suffered a great loss in 2020 when his younger brother Ryan died in a car accident.
The youngling was only 18 at the time of his passing. Ryan died in a single-vehicle car accident that took place in Thousand Oaks, California. The vehicle was engulfed in flames when the cops arrived at the scene.
The horrific car crash claimed the lives of two including Ryan. The second victim of the crash was Ezekial Bishop, 20.
Ryan was a social media star in his own right before his premature death. He had 37.5K followers on Instagram where he posted snippets from his life. His account is still available to view on the platform.
The teen’s last post was merely days before his death on July 25, 2020.
Frank remembers Ryan during Coachella 2023 performance
During his Coachella set, Frank took a minute to tell his fans why he decided to perform this year.
He started his speech by telling his fans that he missed them.
“I wanna talk about why I’m here because it’s not because of a new album,” he said amid fans’ disappointed screams, before clearing up “not that there is not a new album, but there’s not right now.”
He expressed how much his life changed in the last couple of years.
“My brother and I, we came to this festival a lot,” he said talking about his late sibling. “I felt I was dragged here half the time,” he says before sharing how the dust caused issues for him.
Frank also shared how one of his “fondest memories” is watching Rae Sremmurd with Ryan.
The singer finally shared that his brother would have been happy seeing him here. “I know he would be so excited to be here with all of us. I want to say thank you for the support and the years and the love all this time. Now I’ll get back to the songs,” he said.
Frank’s heartfelt speech about little brother has fans emotional
Fans were left emotional after hearing Frank talking about his and Ryan’s Coachella memory.
“Frank Ocean is reminiscing about him and his brother, bringing me to tears,” one fan shared.
“Frank Ocean came to #COACHELLA2023 to honor his late brother. I want to cry,” a second fan said.
“Frank Ocean’s younger brother died in 2020, I would be distraught. I would never pick up a guitar again. I don’t think I would ever speak again if something happened to my brother. grief looks differently on everyone, I’m just glad he’s out here in 2023,” another wrote.
