The official release date for Dr Stone season 2, titled ‘The Stone Wars’, has been confirmed alongside the brand new trailer.
Season 1 of Dr Stone was arguably one of the best anime series of 2019 and quickly became a fan-favourite for its storytelling, science and characters.
After the finale aired in February 2020, most of us weren’t expecting another season to premiere for at least another year – especially with coronavirus delaying production on many anime.
However, it looks like Dr Stone will return for a second season much sooner than anticipated!
Dr Stone season 2 release date…
- Dr Stone season 2 ‘The Stone Wars’ will release on Crunchyroll on Thursday, January 14th, 2021.
Whilst most of us predicted a 2021 release for season 2, not many would have thought it could premiere so early in the year – not that I’m complaining.
Yesterday, December 6th, Crunchyroll confirm that Dr Stone would be returning for season 2 on January 14th. This means that your mid-week anime is sorted, with Re:Zero season 2 part 2 on Wednesdays and Dr Stone and The Promised Neverland season 2 on Thursdays.
However, it has recently been reported that Dr Stone season 2 will just be one cour, with a total of 12 episodes.
Dr Stone season 2 plot…
As the title suggests, this season will focus on the growing conflict between Senku’s Kingdom of Science and Tsukasa’s Empire in what is known as ‘The Stone Wars’.
Whilst the anime is adapted from the original manga series, we won’t be discussing any spoilers from the manga here.
We should also see the reintroduction of Taiju and Yuzuriha, who were noticeably absent for the latter arc of season 1. We know that these two lovers are still loyal to Senku, but are being tailed by members of Tsukasa’s empire – potential hostage situation?
Slightly off from the main storyline for season 2, there could be some developing romantic relationships in the upcoming instalment of Dr Stone. Will Chrome and Ruri get together, or will she develop feelings for Senku?
Speaking of the mad scientist, I can’t be the only one who thinks something could happen with Kohaku. Either way, season 2 should be filled with excitement, humour and most importantly, science!
Fan reaction to the trailer…
Understandably, the reveal trailer and subsequent announcement of a January release date have sent fans of the anime into meltdown.
Season 1 of the show was incredibly popular around the world and quickly developed into one of the most referenced anime of recent years.
Hopefully season 2 lives up to the expectation we, as fans, are putting on Senku and the Kingdom of Science.
