Duane Lee “Dog” Chapman is a former bail bondsman and bounty hunter in the United States. A&E offered Chapman his own show, Dog the Bounty Hunter (2004–2012), when he apprehended Max Factor heir Andrew Luster in Mexico in 2003.
He was born on February 2, 1953 in Denver to Wesley Duane Chapman (1930-2000), a welder (during Dog’s childhood) and later a bail bondsman (after Dog started) for Aaron Bail Bonds. His mother, Barbara Darlene Chapman (née Cowell; 1934-1994), was an Assemblies of God minister who served aboard the USS Irwin during the Korean War.

Dog the Bounty Hunter‘s Professional Career
The arrest of Andrew Luster, who had fled the United States in the middle of his rape and drugging convictions, made headlines around the world on June 18, 2003. Luster was convicted guilty of 86 counts, including repeated rape allegations dating back to 1996, 1997, and 2000, when he was absent from the courtroom. Leland Chapman and Tim Chapman were part of Chapman’s “hunt squad,” which included his sons.
A trio of bounty hunters tracked down Luster when he was hiding out in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. All four of them were detained by Mexican authorities as they made their way to California from Mexico. He was captured by police when his identity was confirmed.
After decades of bounty hunting, Chapman was featured on the show Take This Job, which features people doing odd tasks. A spin-off concerning his efforts to apprehend fugitives, such as Chapman’s pursuit of Andrew Luster, Max Factor cosmetics heir, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, was born out of this.
