Most people have learned that effort yields positive results. The results you want from an endeavour can be achieved by giving it your all. Christians are urged to put in long hours at the office. The Bible contains a number of parables and narratives about the rewards of hard work. According to these examples, hard work is essential to achieving one’s goals.
Christianity promotes the practises of careful attention and striving for perfection. The Bible has many accounts of perseverance. They serve as a gentle reminder to devote time and energy to pursuits that mean something to one’s heart.
Just what does “diligent” entail?
“Diligence” is defined as “the trait of working eagerly and with a lot of effort toward a given desirable end” by the Cambridge Dictionary.
One who is diligent works deliberately and exerts much effort in the pursuit of a desirable goal. The word diligence can be interchanged with intentness, earnestness, assiduity, and laboriousness.
How do you define diligence in the Bible?
The Bible uses this word to describe an action taken out of a deep motivation to fulfil a personal goal. Nothing is obligated of you.
Having a strong yearning for God, that is, for a connection with Him, is at the heart of this. God rewards those who seek Him in earnest.
Those who work hard are rewarded with positions of prominence. The passages below are examples of diligence in the Bible.
In Luke 8:43–48, we read the account of the woman who was bleeding to death.
The Bible recounts the account of a woman who suffered from bleeding for 12 years. She was an example of diligence. Despite her best efforts, no doctor had been able to help her.
She walked up behind Jesus one day and touched the hem of his garment, and her haemorrhage stopped immediately.
The woman in the narrative pushed her way through a large crowd in order to get near Jesus, which was no easy feat. Faith and perseverance paid off as she regained her health.
1 Samuel and 2 Samuel are the books that tell David’s story.
David, the young man, was in charge of tending the flock. David’s brother’s military achievements paled in comparison to what God saw in his hard labour as a herder.
David worked hard and conscientiously to complete his menial tasks. A lot of what he learned as a shepherd helped him when he became king of Israel.
An account of a conscientious woman from the Book of Proverbs (Proverbs 31).
King Lemuel portrays a conscientious woman’s actions in the book of Proverbs. According to Proverbs 31:13–27, she works hard and gives her all to her projects.
She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. She gets up while it is still dark. She sets about her work vigorously. Her arms are strong for her tasks. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Because to her diligence, the woman has a comfortable and supportive family environment. Her beautiful house would not exist if she hadn’t worked so hard to build it.
Colossians Chapter Four: Epaphras’s Life
Only twice does the New Testament make reference to a man named Epaphras. Likely, he was the one who established the Colossae congregation. Towards the close of his letter to the Colossians, Paul mentions Epaphras in verses 11-13.
Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and those at Laodicea and Hierapolis.
For example, Epaphras prays earnestly and regularly, demonstrating his diligence. His method of prayer is likened to strenuous activities like as wrestling and working out. When new churches are established, Epaphras prays fervently for the members.
Elijah and Elisha’s exploits, as told in 1 and 2 Kings
The example of Elijah and Elisha demonstrates that those who are diligent in their service to God reap the rewards of their efforts. They are enthusiastic about carrying out God’s will and seeing it through to its conclusion. The fruit of their labour bears witness to their devotion to God.
The two heroes, Elisha and Elijah, travel from Gilgal to the Jordan River. To Elisha, it is clear that his teacher Elijah would soon be taken from him. Despite Elijah’s repeated requests that he stay behind, he leaves. The following is taken directly from 2 Kings 2:9.
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours – otherwise, it will not.
The decision Elisha made to remain with Elijah was one made with diligence. According to the myth, Elijah was taken to heaven on a chariot of fire. When Elijah died, his spirit moved to Elisha.
Due to his diligence, he earned this. By virtue of his prize, he was endowed with greater strength, allowing him to do things like strike the water and cause a rift large enough for him to walk across.

A Christian’s life should be an example of their devotion to Christ. Below, I’ve outlined some of the advantages you’d reap if you possessed this trait or mannerism.
It can be useful in reaching one’s goals, whether those goals are financial or otherwise. According to the Bible’s Proverbs 10:4, those who work hard will never go without.

It elevates one above his peers, as David was elevated from shepherd to king of Israel because of it. The diligent will enjoy the benefits of their efforts, as promised in Proverbs 12:24.
The hardworking will govern, while the lazy will have to pay tribute.
Having a positive outlook on life and practising patience are both qualities that benefit from this. As stated in Proverbs 21:5, the Bible warns against laziness and advocates for hard effort instead.
When you put in the time and effort, you reap the rewards, but when you cut corners, you get poor.
