On April 7, 2013, beloved local mechanic 57-year-old Carl Dixon was shot and killed in his house.
Dixon’s wife, Mary, telephoned the cops and informed them of a home invasion that took her husband’s life. According to Mary’s statement to the cops, she saw an intruder shoot her husband and leave through the kitchen door. Though she managed to say all this, she could not provide the authorities with any additional information about the killer.
Mary could not provide information about the killer’s race, gender, height, weight, or age and claimed that though she saw the killer, almost every important detail of the killer escaped her.
Due to the lack of details and the holes in her story, the police had a hard time believing her. This lack of information led the authorities to decipher the truth about the case.
Arkansas Carl Dixon Murder Update 2022
As the police were skeptical about Mary Dixon’s story, they brought her in for questioning.
Before this, the police found 57-year-old Carl Dixon was lying on his side in his bed with a gunshot wound to his head. The bullet lodged over his eye was identified as a .22-caliber rifle as they found a shell casing at the crime scene.
According to her statements, she fell asleep around 9:30 PM the night of Carl’s death while doing her taxes in the family’s home office and woke up to the sound of gunshots at 10:45 PM. She noted that the intruder was wearing a hoodie but could not identify any incriminating information.
The police also noted that while Carl owned a .22-caliber rifle, it was not found at the house or in his shop. This clue led the police to believe that the .22-caliber rifle was the murder weapon.
Police pressed Mary as their primary suspect as she was the only person in the house. They made her do a polygraph test, which she failed, but since no evidence could tie Mary to the murder, the authorities had no choice but to let her go.
Afterward, when the police looked at Mary’s phone records, they discovered that on the night of the murder, she had called a number numerous times. The number belonged to Danny Cannon, Mary’s nephew.
She had also dialed another number, which belonged to Thamous Miller, Danny’s friend. Still, the police didn’t have much else to go on.
However, Miller’s girlfriend, Nichole Coburn, then came forward and made a testimony that solved the murder. According to said testimony, Cannon had spoken numerous times about how much Mary Dixon wanted her husband dead and that Cannon was walking around flashing $5000 worth of cash on the day following the killing.
Who Shot Carl Dixon to Death?
Nichole’s testimony gave the police enough to bring Thamous Miller to the station for questioning.
Miller told the police that on April 4, 2013, he and Cannon met with Mary Dixon in Carl’s auto shop’s parking lot, where she paid Danny $5000, and Miller was given $1000 out of that. Miller’s job was to drive Danny to the Dixon residence, where Mary would send him a message to signal when he could come in.
On the night of the murder, Miller dropped Cannon close to the residence as planned and went in after Mary gave the signal. He then walked in and shot Carl Dixon with the rifle mentioned above.
Miller then saw Cannon throw the gun and his shoes out of the window over a railing on his way back, and they soon drove off. Coburn noted that Cannon confessed that he killed Carl simply because his aunt wanted him dead.
Mary also tried to cash in on Carl’s life insurance policies after Carl’s death. Before she could, though, the police arrested all three of them.
All three of the culprits took plea deals. Mary and her nephew pleaded to first-degree murder and received 30 and 25 years, respectively, while Thamous was sentenced to 20 years pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
Where Are Mary Dixon and Danny Cannon Now?
All three of the culprits remain in prison to this day, although they do have parole hearings.
Mary Dixon is currently incarcerated in the McPherson Unit in Newport, Arkansas. She will be eligible for parole in 2035.
Danny Cannon, her nephew, is currently incarcerated in the Grimes Unit in Newport, Arkansas. His eligibility for parole will be in 2031.
