Ali Wong, a comedian, and Justin Hakuta, a businessman, are divorcing. The former couple has two kids together.
Ali Wong and Justin Hakuta are splitting after eight years of marriage, according to a representative for the comedian, “they will continue to co-parent lovingly.
Wong and Hakuta, the son of an inventor and TV personality Ken Hakuta (also known as Dr. Fad), met in the fall of 2009 at a friend’s wedding, according to Wong’s book Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets & Advice for Living Your Best Life. Wong said in the book that she signed a prenuptial agreement with her husband when they married in 2014.
She added, “I was determined to make my fortune because I signed a paper expressly stating how much I couldn’t rely on my spouse.” “My father admired ‘the gift of terror,’ and that prenup terrified the living daylights out of me. Finally, being compelled to sign that prenuptial agreement was one of the best things that could have occurred to me and my profession.”
Mari and Nikki are the daughters of the comedian and the entrepreneur, both 39. In her stand-up appearances, Wong frequently mentions Hakuta, most recently in Ali Wong: Don Wong. Wong sarcastically remembered how she “pressured the shit out of my then-boyfriend to propose to me,” only to end up in “monogamy jail,” as she put it, in the special, which was published on Netflix in February.
“It was insane,” says the narrator. “I got my wish,” she exclaimed. “He proposed, we married, purchased a home, and had two children.” Fast forward seven years, and I’m still not sure why I did it. What occurred, I believe, was that my comic future was looking extremely bleak at the moment. I was having a difficult time and I became frantic.
‘I’m not sure I’ll be able to survive in this world on my own,’ I said. So I’d best catch this Harvard MBA graduate before I wind up homeless.’ But now I’m confident that I can do it alone. As a result, I’d prefer to be alone. Only other married parents with children can understand how envious I am of your singles. OK, you’re not aware of your freedom,” she said.
