And while there are countless independent restaurants and street food stalls worth visit, our focus today lies in identifying the best restaurants across Africa that have not only garnered local acclaim, but have also been lauded on a global scale. So, let’s dive into the culinary world of Africa and embark on an epicurean journey to the finest dining destinations.
But first, let’s be clear about one important factor: What defines the “best” in this case? We are basing our selections on data from global restaurant ranking organizations such as La Liste and TheWorld’s50Best. These rankings consider a variety of factors including ingredient quality, creativity and innovation in the menu, ambiance, service quality, and overall dining experience. The rankings also takes into account the critical reviews from both professional critics and dining patron reviews for a holistic evaluation.

World’s 50 Best Restaurants: Winners of special awards
Grabbing the title of the Best Restaurant in Africa is the newcomer on the block, “Fyn Restaurant”. Nestled in the heart of Cape Town in South Africa, it also managed to secure the 37th spot in the global rankings.

On a global scale, according to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants annual rankings, Geranium in Copenhagen takes the title of the world’s best dining place.
Geranium is keeping up the winning streak for Danish eateries, following the footsteps of Noma, who clinched the title last year. The eagerly-awaited rankings were revealed on Monday at an awards gala helmed by Stanley Tucci in London.
Geranium flaunts a somewhat unique location. It moved from King’s Garden in 2007 and chose to open its doors in 2010 on the eighth floor of the city’s national soccer stadium, with a serene view of Flledparken gardens.
After its grand opening, Geranium made history by becoming the first Danish restaurant to be bestowed with three Michelin stars.
