Lizzo is a singer, rapper, and songwriter from the United States. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and later moved to Houston, Texas, where she began performing.
From the age of ten, she was classically trained as a flautist by renowned music teacher Claudia Momen until she graduated from Alief Elsik High School in Alief, Houston, in 2006, where she also began rapping.
Lizzo attended the University of Houston after high school to study classical music with a focus on flute. She dropped out of college before graduating and relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2011.
Lizzo began her hip hop music recording career in Minneapolis. Lizzo released two studio albums before signing with Nice Life and Atlantic Records: Lizzobangers (2013) and Big Grrrl Small World (2014). Coconut Oil, Lizzo’s first major-label EP, was released in 2016.
Lizzo achieved mainstream success with the release of her third studio album, Cuz I Love You (2019), which charted inside the top five on the US Billboard 200.
The album spawned the singles “Juice” and “Tempo.” The deluxe edition of the album included Lizzo’s 2017 single “Truth Hurts,” which became a viral sleeper hit two years after its initial release.
