People around the UK are raising money for Save the Children by wearing festive jumpers but when is Christmas Jumper Day 2022 and how can you get involved?
Every December, people at work and school wear Christmas jumpers to spread the word on Save the Children UK and raise funds for the charity.
The festive period is a great opportunity to pay forward and give back to communities in need by getting involved with Save the Children’s annual event.
Here’s more about the charity event, including how you can take part and donate to the cause.
WHEN IS CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAY 2022?
National Christmas Jumper Day is on Thursday, December 8, 2022. In previous years, the national day of wearing your most favourite jumper has been on a Friday but the event has changed in 2022.
In 2021, Christmas Jumper Day was on December 10 and the day usually falls on the second or third Friday every year.
If the date doesn’t work for you, Save The Children UK says that you can host the day at another convenient date for you and your friends.
Save the Children UK explains: “Everyone and anyone can take part. At school, at work, at home – in the UK or in any part of the world.
“Even dogs (quite a lot of dogs, actually)! Last year millions of people said they’d wear a silly sweater, and this year could be even more epic.”
HOW TO DONATE TO SAVE THE CHILDREN
To take part in the annual event, all you need to do is to take out your old favourite jumper and wear it at work, school or on a night out with your friends.
“Every time you donate £2, the UK government has totally promised to give £2 to Save the Children too,” the charity explains on its website.
“That means double the funds, double the fun! With all that extra cash, Save the Children has big plans to help mums and babies in Kenya.”
You can donate £2 to the charity and £1 if you are at school. You can learn more about the event and make your donations on Save the Children’s website.
HOW CAN YOU TAKE PART?
Save the Children encourages you not to purchase a brand new jumper as you can buy a secondhand one from a charity shop or reuse an old one.
You can also get creative and make your own when you grab a jumper out of your wardrobe and cover it with stickers, tinsel or glitter.
If you want to spread the word of this great cause, make sure to wear yout favourite festive jumper on December 8 at work or school or at another date that’s more convenient.
If some of you are still working from home, you can set up a Zoom call with your co-workers and spread the joy on social media.
