It was quite Ross and Rachel for a while. Will they or won’t they were asked continuously for the last couple of months? However, it seems like the deal is no longer on a break and the billionaire will be taking the social media platform. Now the question people are asking is, how much did Elon Musk pay for Twitter?
It seems like ages ago that Elon Musk was first planning on buying Twitter. In fact, we’ve had a new monarch, several prime ministers, and a new Game of Thrones prequel. All three of these things have changed the world remarkably since April. However, Elon’s intentions and how much he is willing to pay have stayed the same.
Elon’s plans to buy Twitter fell through
It captured us in April before seeming to die out as quickly as it happened. The news that Elon Musk wanted to buy Twitter and that Twitter was willing baffled us all. So, it wasn’t too surprising that plans quickly fell through just like a spontaneous Vegas wedding.
But then it all got quite dramatic really. Talks happened, Elon pulled out in July, and then Twitter was planning on suing. Whirlwind doesn’t seem enough of a description really.
Everything seemed to simmer down for a little while. A court date was announced for October 17th, 2022 but then plans were announced this month that the forced deal was reaching competition. Turns out that like Ross, Elon’s annulment didn’t really go as planned. However, instead of a divorce, it now seems Twitter and Elon are trying to make it work.
That’s right, instead of going to court, Elon decided to save the hassle and just go through with the purchase. Billionaires eh? Keeping us on our toes.
How much did Elon Musk buy Twitter for?
Elon is staying true to his initial offer and offering $54.20 per share, working out at $44 billion. Although, he didn’t have much choice as that was what was decided between Twitter and the billionaire in the first place. The Verge report numerous conversations between Elon and Twitter in which he tried, in many ways, to get out of the deal.
Now, the BBC reports Elon has until Friday (October 28) to complete the deal or risks going to trial anyway. However, in a very recent Twitter post Elon said he had “acquired Twitter”, suggesting that the deal has taken place. Even more, he cited his reasons as being “important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square.”
Heading into HQ with the kitchen sink
Elon hints at his aspirations of Twitter being “the most respected advertising platform in the world.” So it’s good to know that his plans are humble.
This comes after a video Elon posted to Twitter where he is carrying a sink into Twitter HQ with the caption “Let that sink in!” It’s an admirable joke, and one we too would laugh at if our friends were billionaires.
Whether this is the case or not, it’s glad to know that Elon finally got off the plane and is committing to Twitter once and for all.
WOTHAPPEN and GRV Media have requested a comment from Elon’s representatives over whether the deal has officially gone through.
