WAS BMW’S INSTAGRAM HACKED? BIZARRE ‘DEE’ POSTS EXPLAINED

Instagram and Twitter users grew concerned when BMW’s social media sites began posting some strange things this week – leading many to wonder if they were hacked.

The German car manufacturer has a whopping 24 million followers on Instagram and 2.4 million on Twitter, all of which were confused by the odd posts on Tuesday (December 13).

BMW’s profile picture changed and some really strange videos began appearing about something called Dee. The conclusion is a cyberattack, but that’s not actually the case.

STRANGE POSTS APPEAR ON BMW’S INSTAGRAM

People who follow BMW were confused when the car company’s Instagram took a break from its usual photos of cars and started posting weird yellow glitchy videos.

They all spoke about something called Dee:

They even changed their profile picture:

The weird posts flooded Twitter too, where strange text began appearing:

PEOPLE THOUGHT THE CAR BRAND WAS HACKED

Everyone rushed to Twitter with the same thought – BMW must have been hacked.

One person wrote: “It would appear that the #BMW social media accounts have been hacked.”

“BMW’s Instagram page has been hacked and it’s hilarious,” said another.

A third person added: “#BMW Instagram page got hacked but at least a funny hacker we got.”

“Whoever hacked BMW social media accounts is having a good time,” someone else said.

IT’S PROMOTING SOMETHING CALLED ‘DEE’

Everyone was convinced the car brand’s social media had been compromised, but that’s not actually the case.

It was a clever piece of marketing from BMW about something new called Dee, which seems to be some sort of artificial intelligence bot.

page has appeared on BMW’s website that says “\\ hi, i am dee! //” but right now, they haven’t actually revealed what Dee is.

The car manufacturer is telling people to press activate here to stay tuned and subscribe for the latest updates on the new feature.

So, BMW wasn’t hacked after all. They were simply trying to grab attention for their latest project – and it certainly worked!
