Matheus Cunha, a Brazilian forward, has emerged as one of Manchester United’s top prospects to bolster their assault in the remaining weeks of the transfer season.
The 23-year-old Cunha can play anywhere forward but is perhaps most renowned for his work as a central striker, which is where United see him fitting in. Cunha spent the previous year at Atletico Madrid after moving there for £22 million from Hertha Berlin.
According to sources, there have been discussions between United and the player’s representation. The player is rumoured to be interested in moving to Old Trafford, and United have been trying to gauge his desire.
As Hertha is also entitled to a 10% sell-on figure for the former RB Leipzig player, it is said that Atletico wants a deal that would allow them to treble their investment from last summer, which was approximately £45 million.
Nevertheless, Cunha still has four years left on his present deal with Diego Simeone.
Cunha, who ended his first season in Spain with six goals and four assists, is now available for signing by United.
