TIKTOK’S DOUBLOONS TREND AND MEANING OF THE CAT EXPLAINED
If there’s a cat on your TikTok‘s For You page with its paws sticking up, it only means one thing – you’re unconsciously partaking in the Doubloons trend, having become a part of the economy whose rules are determined by the feline.
TikTok isn’t new to some of the strangest virtual challenges you would find on the face of the earth. The latest trend that’s quickly gaining immense prominence is found to be mind-boggling to many.
While some are boasting about figuring it out already, others are beating their brains over the new currency, Doubloons, its meaning, and how it even works.
DOUBLOONS TREND TAKES OVER TIKTOK
As alien as the word may seem to many of you, Doubloon is an old-age Spanish currency made of gold, usually associated with sunken pirate ships and hidden treasures in caves.
However, in this context and as of November 21, Doubloons are digital currencies of the sort that are being widely circulated on TikTok.
These can be collected, saved in the virtual bank, and used to purchase products (such as blankets, soup, and salad) and even services.
The usage of the new digital currency is also linked to inflation in the virtual world and TikTokers are concerned that it’s gone up by nearly “300 per cent” in less than 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Coin Market Cap describes Doubloons as a cryptocurrency, which is valued at $0.000478 USD.
MEANING OF THE CAT AND ITS ROLE IN THE TREND
This whole trend has resulted in a lot of memes that show cats staring into your eyes with their paws stretched out.
As many TikTokers have noted, you will get your share of Doubloons by simply following the instructions of the cat in videos on your For You page.
If you follow the rules as stated, you can collect much of the digital currency and use them efficiently. But, we must warn you against the “infinite” Doubloon generators as many believe it’s a scam.
Also, the cat decides how many Doubloons would be charged for anything and the cute creature shows the number using its paw.
However, there is no strict limit or margin on the cost as the demand is constantly fluctuating.
USERS ARE SUPER-CONFUSED
It isn’t clear how the viral trend started, but people have become obsessed with it. And those who aren’t able to make any sense of it, have taken to Twitter to share their views on it.
One confused-yet-curious user asked: “I got over 100k Doubloons and a cat? What am I supposed to do with it?”
Another said: “My entire existence these last few days has been dictated by the Doubloons cat on TikTok.”
A third user wrote: “What the hell are Doubloons? Isn’t that pirate currency? Why is everyone talking about pirate currency?”
