TikTok users are being restricted from viewing certain posts due to an ‘age protected’ error. Let us explain to you what it means and how you can turn it off.
The video-sharing platform has taken extra measures to ensure a safe environment for its younger users.
This means that if you’re below the required age, you’re automatically restricted from watching videos deemed inappropriate.
But, older TikTok users appear to be irked at the time of writing as they are seeing the ‘this post is age protected’ error while trying to access videos despite being over 18.

‘This post is age protected’ error explained
As per TikTok’s policy, its users must be at least 18 years. But, the platform does allow a younger audience to access its content as well – only with the safe mode turned on.
So, if you’re under 18, all your videos are automatically made private, and the default settings restrict access to content that’s not appropriate in nature or violent.
The video-sharing platform instilled a list of new rules last year to keep its younger audience from being exposed to certain content.
However, it seems like even the older lot is being met with this error today, which could possibly be due to a glitch or a bug.
How to turn off the age restriction feature
Although TikTok hasn’t identified the issue flagged by its users, you can turn off the feature that restricts your viewing capacity by yourself.
All you need to do is open your profile and select the hamburger icon on the top right corner of your screen.
Navigate to Settings and Privacy and select the Digital Wellbeing option.
Scroll down to find Restricted Mode, which is to “Limit potentially inappropriate content.” You can change the setting to Off.
Can you change your age on TikTok?
For a long time, TikTok users have wondered if they can change their age on the app as they think doing so will help eliminate the error.
But, you cannot manually change your age on TikTok.
Your date of birth and other details and entered at the time of signing up. The only way to change it is by contacting customer support.
