    For the past two weeks now, the Nigerian youths are out on the streets asking the government to put an end to bad governance. The youths however began the protest by creating the hashtag #ENDSARS which is currently trending on the social media. In the cause of this peaceful protest, lots of properties ranging from federal and private sectors properties are being destroyed. In this article, i will be sharing with you some pictures of the destruction caused by the ongoing #ENDSARS protesters.

    For so many years now, Nigerians youths are no longer free to move around with their personal cars and phones without been question by the SARS operatives on how they got what they are possessing. Recall that in the year 1992, the then commission of police created and established the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) which major aims is to curb a spate of armed robberies in the country.

    The police unit becomes more larger and more power in the year 2019 and its functions was expanded beyond just curbing of armed robberies but also to investigate the internet fraudsters in Nigeria. However, many people are now misusing the opportunity by harassing the nation’s citizens necessarily. Members of this unit are permitted to be in possession of guns and go around with an unmarked police vehicles, they also operates in large numbers and hence terrorizing the youth.

    Most Nigerians are also complaining bitterly how the SARS are forcing them to transfer money into their accounts or with draw for them through the ATM. There has also been cases of several harassment, raped, extort, injured and lost of lives the police units.

    However, a campaign was launched int the year 2016 calling for the federal government to disband the unit. After three (3) years of the campaign, the unit was later overhauled, decentralized, disbanded and reformed for three consecutive times by the Nigerian government but yield no positive results.

    Nigerians however, decided to go the streets to make their voice known to the whole world and come to their aids. Early October 20202, the first protest was launching protesting for the cancellation of the SARS unit. Youths in Lagos state was gathered at the state’s House of Assembly demanded an end to the SARS operatives. Three days later, the protest have gathered not less than 50,000 youths in over 100 cities of the world with the hashtag #ENDSARS.

    The Nigerian Police inspector General, Mohammed Adamu announced on the 11th of October 2020 that SARS has been disbanded and won’t disturb the peace of the citizens anymore. Despite the announcement, the Nigerian youths are still seen on the streets protesting against bad governance saying that the youths doesn’t deserve the recent maltreatment from the government.

    One thing special this protest is that it is not just against the SARS operatives. It is very obvious that the protest is a result of long time anger over the dehumanizing policies of the Nigerian government such as; injustice, hunger, maladministration and hike in fuel prices. The cumulative effect of these roll into one. That’s why the protesters have refused to end their action. It seems this is seen as a once in a lifetime opportunity to address critical national injustices.

    This generation of young Nigerians are doing a good job. There is good coordination, arrangements have been made for food and water as well as music to keep them busy. They have medical personnel on standby, ambulances and mobile toilets for convenience. They have also hired private security (bouncers) for protection, raised money and ensured properties are safe.

    The #ENDSARS protesters have already make it known to the world that they don’t have a leader, this might be as a result of mistrust from their leaders. Nigeria has been described as the second most poorest country in the whole world and the youths are not happy. They go on streets to clean and tight them up everyday after the protest in order to make their surroundings look good. However, another key factor that makes this protest unique is the use of social media. The way this has helped mobilize protesters is unprecedented.
