Reactions trail as Manchester City unveil new Sergio Aguero’s Statue

On this day a decade ago, the Argentine striker  sergio Aguero scored the best goal in club history against QPR on the last kick of the 2011/12 season.

It was the Blues’ first league triumph in 44 years, as they edged rivals United on goal difference courtesy to Aguero’s heroics.

Aguero’s accomplishments have been recognized with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium, which is responsible for the most famous moment in Premier League history.

It was produced at Andy Scott’s Philadelphia studio by award-winning sculptor Andy Scott, who previously carved sculptures of fellow superstars Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

On Friday morning, Aguero viewed the monument for the first time after it had been transported and installed outside the ground.

However, as has been the case with numerous monuments of renowned sportsmen in previous years, many have criticized the work of art and do not feel it has any likeness.

Reflecting on his statue, Aguero told Manchester City’s official website: “Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself 10 years ago is very moving.

In those 10 years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the Club become one of the most important in the world.

“I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special.”
