Princess Latifa where is she now: Is Princess Latifa still alive 2021?
New footage from 2019 has just been released that allegedly shows Princess Latifa in solitary confinement in Dubai. Now, the world is demanding for her to be freed.
If you’ve been on social media over the past few days, you’ve probably seen the term #FreeLatifa trending as the world urges for the ruler of the United Arab Emirates to free his daughter from alleged imprisonment.
This comes after new footage from 2019 shows Latifa claiming that she is being held hostage, and the world has now become increasingly worried for her safety.
That’s the last known footage of Latifa, but where is she now? Here’s what we know…
Who is Princess Latifa?
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, better known as Princess Latifa, is an Emirati sheikha and member of Dubai’s ruling family.
Her father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.
The world is concerned for the 35-year-old after new details recently came to light about her alleged kidnapping and hostage.
She tried to flee Dubai in 2018
Back in 2018, Princess Latifa tried to flee Dubai, claiming that she wanted to seek asylum and gain freedom in another country as her parents wouldn’t let her leave the country and were very restrictive.
Helped by her friend Tiina Jauhiainen, they snuck out of Dubai and drove to the coast of Oman. Then, they rode a dinghy and jet ski out into international waters and reached a yacht where they would sail across the Indian Ocean and fly to the USA.
However, new footage has recently been shared that documents her failed escape. In the just-released videos, Latifa reveals that armed men boarded the boat.
“I was fighting, and this guy came with a small pouch and he took out the needle and he injected me in my arm. The commandos carried me through this corridor, and to a big room, and there was in front of me like maybe four or five generals,” she said.
She repeatedly told them that she didn’t want to go back to the UAE but was transferred to an Indian military ship and flown back to Dubai.

Where is she now?
After Princess Latifa was taken back to Dubai, her friend Tiina was detained for two weeks before being released. Then, she began to raise awareness of what had happened, launching the Free Latifa campaign. However, she didn’t hear from Latifa for over a year.
Then, in early 2019, she gained contact to Latifa again who began sending her video messages in which she revealed that she was allegedly being held hostage.
Whispering in the corner of her bathroom, she said: “I’m doing this video from a bathroom, because this is the only room with a door I can lock. I’m a hostage. I am not free. I’m enslaved in this jail. My life is not in my hands.”
She revealed she was in a villa that had been turned into a jail, claiming there were policemen in the house and she was unable to go outside or have access to sunlight.
Now, in 2021, Latifa is believed to still be in solitary confinement in Dubai, and Tiina has decided to release all these video messages to the public to try and pressure the Sheikh to release her.
The Dubai government say that Latifa is safe and with her family. However, the world is very worried for her wellbeing and nobody has heard from Latifa for months.
