The Nigerian film industry is no doubt a thriving one with many talented acts to show for it. However, the film industry has also been known to attract criticism from time to time over the quality of movies they put out.
Nigerian author and social critic, Reno Omokri, took to his Twitter page to share his opinion about the film industry called Nollywood. According to him, it has been responsible for portraying citizens of the country as diabolic and fetish people.
Reno then went on to recount how he was in San Francisco with veteran actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo in 2011 when a lady recognised the film star. Reno said he brought out his camera thinking the lady wanted a photo but that she screamed saying that they wanted to use her picture for ‘juju’.
He wrote: “In 2011, @KanayoOKanayo and I were walking in San Francisco. An American lady recognised him. I brought out my camera, thinking she wanted a photo. She screamed and said ‘you want to use my photo for juju’! That is what Nollywood has done to us!”
Explaining further, Reno said that he has been to many African and Caribbean countries and that people are usually wary of Nigerians, not because of 419 but because of juju.
Hmm…Interesting… What do you have to say?
