In the wake of a prestigious Nigerian university rescinding the diploma of a prominent former governor, a court has rendered a decision.

On November 30, a Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo state, upheld the Abia State University’s decision to revoke Senator Orji Uzo Kalu’s Bachelors’ degree certificate.
An appeals court’s decision to reinstate the former governor’s Bachelors degree certificate was overturned by the presiding judge, Justice Oludotun Adefope-Okojie.
Wothappen.com understand that, the state university withdrew Kalu’s certificate of graduation in 2013 due to allegations of fraud and admissions violations.
Even though he was removed from office as governor and is currently serving as a senator in Abia State, the former governor went to the state’s highest court in Isikuato to fight the allegations against him.
According to the appeals court, the state high court for Abia did not have jurisdiction to rule on the case.
In her verdict, Justice Adefope Okojie stated that the Isikwuato high court had no authority to rule on the issue of a certificate.
Sen. Kalu’s appeal to the appellate court was rejected because the university’s Senate had voted to strip him of his degree certificate, according to The Punch, which reported on the decision.
