Hushpuppi: IGP finally submits report to PSC on Abba Kyari, months after FBI indictment

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari has finally been recommended for disciplinary action, according to reports yesterday.

As soon as he had his report from the investigation panel, he submitted it to the Service Commission (PSC). Abbas Ramon (aka Hushpuppi), an Instagram influencer, and four others are accused of running a $1.1 million internet scam. Kyari was investigated for his alleged involvement.

Kyari’s indictment by the FBI, which suggested that he be extradited to the United States to stand trial, sparked the investigation.

Braimoh Adogame Austin, a PSC member, informed our Abuja-based correspondent that the panel will begin discussing the subject this week.

Hushpuppi and his crew were detained by Dubai police in June 2020. The FBI was able to secure their extradition to the United States and bring them to justice.

When a “co-conspirator,” Chibuzo Vincent, reportedly threatened to expose $1.1 million fraud committed against a Qatari businessman, Hushpuppi hired Kyari, according to FBI Special Agent, Andrew Innocenti.

A Facebook post by Kyari in which he denied the claims was deleted after he edited it about 12 times on July 29, 2021.

On July 31, the PSC implemented the recommendation of the IG and suspended Kyari.

Joseph Egbunike, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, was appointed to lead the investigation on August 2 by the police chief.

This “painstaking, thorough, and exhaustive investigative process” was described by Egbunike on August 26 when the panel’s report was submitted.

According to him, the report featured evidence and results from the investigation, as well as statements from Kyari and other parties involved in the investigation.
