A report by Leadership newspaper indicates that the Nigerian Army major who escaped from court premises after he was convicted by a General Court Martial in Abuja has been captured in another country, Benin Republic.

The fleeing officer identified as Major Akeem Oseni was arrested at the Cotonou International Airport around 2pm on Monday, February 10. He was waiting to board a flight to the United States of America via a Cote D’Ivoire airline.

Oseni, one out of the three army personnel jailed over the death of another officer used the excuse that he wanted to use the restroom at the court before he escaped.

In an official statement confirming his capture, it was noted that Oseni is in the custody of the Benin Republican Force.

It was further explained in the statement that a lieutenant and a captain identified as Chime have been detained immediately for reportedly letting the escape from the court premises happen.

In order to investigate the situation, a board of inquiry was set up by the Nigerian Army to find out what happened.
