EPL: Ten Hag identifies Illan Meslier as Man Utd goalkeeper solution

EPL Ten Hag identifies Illan Meslier as Man Utd goalkeeper solution

According to a report, Manchester United have increased their budget to buy a new goalkeeper this summer, with Illan Meslier being one option they like.

Dean Henderson was allowed to leave Manchester United earlier in the transfer window in order to play in more games elsewhere. David De Gea is now the undisputed starting goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

Tom Heaton, a veteran who previously played for Burnley and Aston Villa, is positioned behind De Gea in the lineup. An additional goalkeeper might still show up to make up for Henderson and Lee Grant’s departures, though.

The Athletic claims that Erik ten Hag has changed his mind about having Heaton serve as De Gea’s primary backup and another option below him and is now looking to sign someone to fill the gap between the two.

The spending limit for finding a new backup goalkeeper at Manchester United has also been increased from £1 million to £7 million.

As a result, they increased the salary cap for a new keeper. They are now willing to invest more after initially setting aside £35,000 per week for a newcomer.

Strangely, according to The Athletic, Henderson’s recent interview about leaving the club has caused the change in the plan. The international for England criticised the team for breaking their promise to make him the number one.

Ten Hag, in turn, has observed the strength of Henderson’s character and desires to sign someone with similar qualities rather than simply moving Heaton up the chain.
