Newcastle United held reigning champions, Manchester City to a stalemate in their premier league clash at St. James’ Park, on Sunday.
İlkay Gündoğan opened the scoring for City just five minutes into the game.
Miguel Almiron equalised for the hosts 23 minutes later after tucking home Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross. The goal was initially disallowed, but after consulting the VAR, referee, Jarred Gillett gave the goal because an offside was incorrectly flagged.
Callum Wilson put Newcastle in the lead in the 39th minute, before Kieran Trippier doubled the lead in the second-half with a brilliant goal.
However, Man City levelled up thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva. Haaland reduced the deficit to a goal in the 60th minute, before Silva equalised for City after he was set up by Kevin De Bruyne.
Newcastle goalscorer, Kieran Trippier bagged a red card in the 72nd minute for his foul on De Bruyne, but had it changed to a yellow after a VAR review.
In the other Sunday’s EPL fixture, West Ham thrashed Brighton 2-0 thanks to goals from Mac Allister and Trossard; Leeds United destroyed Chelsea 3-0 courtesy of goalkeeper, Édouard Mendy’s blunder and goals from Rodrigo and James Harrison.
