Delhi Crime showrunner wants to ‘pull in an audience’ who hasn’t seen first season

Netflix has a little something for fans of all genres and you won’t be left behind if you’re into crime dramas.

One of the latest to entertain audiences is the return of Delhi Crime.

Written and directed by Richie Mehta, the Indian series earned a premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and the full first season later hit Netflix back in 2019.

After praise from critics and general audiences alike, fans were thrilled to learn that it had been picked up by the streamer for another season.

Now that it’s finally time to dive back in again, you’ll want to know how many episodes Delhi Crime season 2 is offering.

How many episodes in Delhi Crime season 2?

Season 2 of Delhi Crime is made up of only five episodes in total.

All five premiered on Netflix simultaneously on Friday, August 26th 2022 so audiences can either binge them or space out at their own pace if they wish.

You may be surprised, as season 1 was made up of seven episodes, so we’re getting a shorter season this time around.

Nevertheless, it’s safe to say that the writers packed in plenty of narrative into fewer instalments.

‘Where do I take this material?’

Showrunner and director Tanuj Chopra recently spoke with Deadline about working on the second season of the project:

“When Richie [Mehta] handed me his notes, the question was where do I take this material? My hope was that we’d find a way to grow the show and pull in an audience that didn’t see the first season, perhaps because they couldn’t take the material, or did see it because they were familiar with the crime, and then discovered this beautiful cast of characters.”

He added: “My task was how do I take these amazing characters and pull them forward?”

Shefali Shah (who plays DCP Vartika Chaturvedi) also told Deadline that “It’s all very raw and pure and straight from the heart. We can say very proudly that we’ve achieved what we set out to make.”

Is Delhi Crime renewed for season 3 yet?

No, Netflix and the series creators are yet to confirm whether it has been renewed for a third season.

However, it’s arguably a little premature to expect concrete renewal news and an announcement will likely be made sometime in September 2022.
