Cesar Azpilicueta signs new two-year Chelsea deal

Cesar Azpilicueta has formally committed his future to Chelsea by signing a new two-year deal through the summer of 2024.

Earlier in the summer, Azpilicueta was eager to move to Barcelona in search of a new challenge, but he decided to extend his ten-year stay at Stamford Bridge.

“I am really happy to extend my stay at Chelsea, my home,” the Blues captain said.

“It is almost 10 years since I first arrived and joined the club so I really feel the love and I am really excited for the new project we have in our hands.”

Azpilicueta expressed his appreciation for the chance to continue in particular to the new owner Todd Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali. Boehly’s takeover of the saga appeared to change things, with the American businessman wanting manager Thomas Tuchel to have the final say.

“I would like to say thank you to Mr Todd and Mr Behdad for giving me the opportunity to keep my journey at this amazing club and I am really looking forward to continuing our adventure. I am a really proud captain and I hope we can share many good memories together,” the player said.
