Born on August 23, 1962, he began his career in the National League (NL) from 1996 to 1999 and has since worked in both major leagues starting in 2000.

His umpiring skills have earned him prestigious assignments, including being a member of the umpiring crew for the 2005 and 2021 All-Star Games. He has also officiated in the 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, and 2020 American League Division Series.
